About Us

Strand property is your key to a better standard of living. In 1695, a member of the Dutch occupying forces at the Cape, first set foot on the vast expanse of beachfront which today would be regarded as prime Strand real estate. And he named the area, Milk Bay. At that period in time, the region was home to nomadic clans of native Khoikhoi. In 1714, a small group of French settlers occupied tracts of land in the vicinity, but the region was first inhabited in any planned fashion by a community of Muslim slaves from Java in 1824 and the initial village was named Mosterd Bay. In 1850, it was renamed as Van Ryneveld’s Town and remained home to an expanding Muslim community that had been granted permanent residence in the town after the practice of slavery was abolished. Churches, mosques and a government school were built in 1893, and the town was again renamed as Hottentots Holland Strand. Thomas Wade, a British soldier whom had fought in the Anglo Boer War, settled there in 1904 and further contributed to the infrastructural development of the town. The town became known as Somerset Strand, but its name was officially registered as Strand (finally), in 1937. Strand is without a doubt one of the prime areas for property in South Africa.

Strand is currently regarded as one of the premium beach-resorts in the Western Cape. Beach Road, which extends along the entire, uninterrupted length of the most impressive beach in Africa, has often been likened to the coastal route in Miami, Florida. Beach Road is flanked by similar splashes of art-deco architecture, with the glamorous high-rise apartments lending special character to the Strand property that fringe the beachfront. The False Bay coastline is visible all the way to the village of Hangklip in the north-east, and winds its south-westerly course toward the distant Red Hill which overlooks the Simonstown property area. Strand’s main commercial center is well inland, sharing workspace with the neighboring Somerset West and is conveniently set apart from both the prime residential areas and the exotic seaside playground. Restaurants can be found at a variety of locations and those overlooking the sea provide the most spectacular views imaginable. Water sports abound, but the keen golfer also has a wide selection of golf courses to choose from. Flagstone Winery, (a mere five-minute drive from the beachfront), allows one to sample the fine wines of the region when needing a respite from fun in the sun.

No prospective investor would turn down the opportunity of owning one of the many beachfront apartments or penthouses that are perched along the premium sites of Strand coastline. The Strand houses encircling these exclusive vantage points includes security-complexes, townhouse developments and renovated seaside retreats; all within easy walking distance of the sea. The multitude of apartments and compact family homes in the established residential areas share a magnificent view of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland mountain ranges, yet are only a short drive away from the hustle and bustle of the Beach Road environment.

The Strand and Somerset West regions share the convenience of the N2 freeway which allows easy access to not only the City of Cape Town, but also to the rural beauty of the winelands. A coastal drive leads one to the smaller seaside towns of Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay property area in pursuit of the Southern Right whales disporting themselves off the coastline. Strand property also extends to the outskirts of the adjacent town of Gordon’s Bay; a haven for the fishing- and boating-community where a sheltered harbour welcomes the yachting-fraternity and witnesses the launch of regular harbor cruises for holidaymakers. Seafood eateries are a constant temptation! Gordon’s Bay is a sleepy hollow, nestled against an imposing mountain backdrop, with the Blue-flag status of its main beach ensuring its popularity with both surfing and sailing enthusiasts. The festive atmosphere at the Waterfront development attracts visitors from both Strand and Gordon’s Bay and highlights the ease of traveling between two neighbours offering a perfect combination of lifestyle and leisure options.

Truly, Strand property has introduced a whole new dimension to the concept of carefree-living.
